Construction Safety

CDM 2015

(The Construction (Design and Management) Regulations)

How SHE Management can assist with compliance:

The Client

If you are a commercial client (including property developers and landlords) and are having construction work carried out for you then you will have duties under CDM 2015. As a client’s CDM Consultant, we can assist you by:

  • Ensuring suitable arrangements for managing the project are in place
  • Ensuring there is a review of the management arrangements for the duration of the project
  • Assisting with pre-construction information - which is required to be made available to every designer and contractor either bidding for the work or already appointed to the project
  • Ensuring that the principal contractor or contractor (for single contractor projects) prepares a construction phase plan before that phase begins
  • Directing that the principal designer prepares a health and safety file for the project or that any existing file is revised as necessary
  • Helping with notification requirements where this is needed
  • Visiting sites on behalf of the client to ensure contractors are working safely.

The Contractor/Principal Contractor

All contractors have duties on construction sites and the client must appoint a Principal Contractor where there is more than one contractor involved in any construction project. SHE Management can assists contractors and principal contractors by:

  • Providing site H&S visits to assure management that H&S matters are being controlled
  • Making sure the client is aware of the client duties under CDM 2015 before any work starts
  • Developing or advising on the content and adequacy of any construction phase health and safety plan
  • Assisting with project planning, management and monitoring (including welfare, security and induction procedures)
  • Ensuring reasonable checks are in place to ensure that all workers they employ or appoint have the skills, knowledge, training and experience to carry out the work

NB: Contractors working for a domestic client

When working as a contractor for a domestic client, the contractor takes on the client duties, as well as their own.
